I
lived in Derby and Broome as a kid though I was away at high school
and university. I used to work on the wharf in Broome and Derby.
We
(my wife, Helen and our 6 month old son Boaz) came back to Broome in
'78. At that time the population was about 3,000. We decided to stay
and establish a veterinary service for the area as there was no vet
in Broome.

We
initially lived in a caravan and I remember operating at night with
Helen holding a torch so that I could see. I used to go to people's
houses and operate on their kitchen tables as I had no proper
surgery.
The
government campaign to eradicate Tuberculosis in cattle gave me a lot
of work on cattle stations and I had to juggle that with the small
animal work in town. The first few years were very hectic but 33
years later the business has grown into a first class practice of
which we are proud.
I
continue to work with cattle on the stations, the work now being
pregnancy testing, speying cattle and the veterinary supervision of
the live shipment of cattle to Indonesia and some other countries.
We have 4 children. I still work 60 to 70 hours
per week and remain committed to the cattle industry and supplying a
first class veterinary service to the West Kimberley area.
I
am very fortunate that in recent years, May and Colin(left Jan 2012) and more
recently Scott have come along and been very committed and dedicated
to continue to offer that level of service to the people of Broome
and the West Kimberley. May has also developed a
programme to supply veterinary assistance to outlying Aboriginal
communities.

the Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in New Zealand.
After completing his internship there in 2008, Scott joined the
Broome Veterinary Hospital as a locum veterinarian and has since
become so enamored with Broome that he has stayed on permanently. Scott
enjoys kayaking, free-diving, and cycling in his free time.
